Charles Lynn

Charles Lynn led Salisbury High School to two straight undefeated basketball seasons, averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. He was named All-Western North Carolina both seasons. Lynn attended Catawba College and was a four-year starter and two-time honorable mention All-American player. He was also named outstanding Student-Academic All-American Team. In addition, he was fifth all-time at Catawba in points (1,649) and fourth all-time at Catawba in rebounds (1,058). He is a member of the Catawba College Hall of Fame.

Clyde Kluttz
Clyde Kluttz is known as Salisbury's Mr. Baseball. Kluttz has a 42-year career in pro baseball as a player, manager, scout and director of player personnel. As a catcher, he played nine seasons in the Major Leagues between 1942 and 1952. He was a member of the Cardinals when they won the 1946 World Series. He played in 656 games, compiling a .268 batting average. He scouted and signed hall of famer Jim "Catfish" Hunter to a professional baseball contract. He was also the director of player personnel for the Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.

Harry Welch

Harry Welch was an outstanding wingback for Duke University's famous "Iron Dukes", the 1938 unbeaten, untied and un-scored upon football team. While in the service during WWII, he fought former heavyweight boxing champ, Joe Lewis, in an exhibition match. Welch played in the US Open and US Amateur five times each. He won the Carolinas Amateur in 1966. He was runner up in the US Senior Championship in 1973. He won 15 Individual and four-ball titles at the Salisbury Country Club. He was inducted into the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame.

Jay Ritchie
Jay Ritchie was a star in both baseball and basketball at Granite Quarry High. His pitching record during his junior and senior seasons was a perfect 24-0. Ritchie was also named Rowan County's all-time basketball scoring leader when he ended his career. He signed to a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox in 1956. He played six years in the Major Leagues with the Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds. He also set a Major League record by retiring 29 straight batters in four appearances with the Braves. Ritchie retired from baseball in 1970 with an earned run average of 3.40 in 167 games.

Gordon Kirkland
Gordon Kirkland was Salisbury's Boyden High School Coach in three sports. Kirkland was also associated with Catawba College Athletics in various capacities for 19 years (1934-1953). Kirkland's Catawba football teams set a National Record for scoring in 89 consecutive games. His record of 107-31 for a .762 percentage was the best during the college's first 88 years. His football teams won eight conference titles and the 1947 and 1948 Tangerine Bowls. He won nine crowns in baseball and two in basketball. Kirkland is also a Catawba College and North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame member.

Ken Owen
Ken Owen starred in football at Salisbury's Boyden High School, leading the Yellow Jackets to the Western 3A title in 1952. As a fullback Owen led the state in scoring with 152 points in 1953. He was the first player from Salisbury to receive All-American honors. Owen also tarred in the Shrine Bowl in 1953 and was honored as North Carolina's Most Outstanding Player. He played at Georgia Tech on victorious Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Gator Bowl Teams. Own was inducted into Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 1979. Legendary Coach Bobby Dodd selected Owen as the best fullback on his all-time squad.

Jack Taylor
Recipient of the Horace Billings Lifetime Achievement Award
Jack Taylor was a star pitcher and baseball player for Landis High School. At Catawba College, Taylor had a career pitching record of 18-3. Taylor also pitched 13 years in the minors. He won 182 games, struck out 1,610 batters and had a 3.27 ERA. Jack Taylor was a great role model by coaching 30 years in Little League programs and in 1995 he won the state's SGMA Heroes Award. He is also a member of the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame.
