SOMETIMES THE ACTION COMES TO YOU!

Salisbury’s Firefighters respond to an average of 10 emergencies each day.  They travel the city streets to locate and help people in need.  Friday was a little different. The action came right up to the fire department’s front door.

It started at the intersection of South Link and West Innes street, about 100 yards from Fire Station 3, as two vehicles collided.  Both vehicles careened through the South Link intersection and proceeded onto the front yard of the station. Quint 533 and the reserve engine were on the front apron for the daily apparatus and equipment check.   The Montero ran past the flag pole and hit the Quint broadside, centering the pump panel.

Fortunately, Engineer Burleyson was in the bay at the time of the accident and was not exposed to any danger. Firefighter Grubb was outside, but between the Quint and the Reserve Engine. He watched the latter parts of the accident through the Quint’s windows.  Captain Baker and Engineer Lancaster witnessed the Montero hit the Quint from the front office and saw the air bags deploy.

The firefighters immediately attended to the injured drivers, both were transported to the hospital, but absent of life-threatening injuries.

Damage to the Quint is still being evaluated. It is estimated that it will be out of service for at least several weeks.
