Salisbury Fire Department promotes one, hires 4 March17,2005 |
| The Salisbury Fire Department has hired four new
firefighters and promoted one firefighter to captain.
David Deal, a member of the Salisbury Fire Department since December 1999, was promoted from fire control specialist to fire captain on Jan. 3. Deal is a graduate of East Rowan High School and is a certified paramedic, firefighter II and hazardous materials technician. Deal has attended numerous classes at Rowan-Cabarrus and Davidson community colleges. He also volunteers with the South Salisbury Fire Department and the Rowan County Rescue Squad. Deal serves as captain of Engine 511 during the B shift at Station 51 on East Innes Street. He has one engineer and two fire control specialists assigned to his engine, said Salisbury Assistant Fire Chief Rick Fesperman. Deal and his wife have one son and live in Salisbury. New firefighters hired at the Salisbury Fire Department include: David Layman, who began work Nov. 8 and is assigned to the C shift. A graduate of Jupiter Community High School, Layman earned a degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida. He is a certified EMT-B and also is certified as an open water diver. He and his wife have one child and live in Charlotte. *Kenneth Wortman began work Nov. 8 and is assigned to A shift. A graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High, Wortman earned a degree in fire protection technology from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. He is a North Carolina certified EMT-B and firefighter II. He lives in China Grove. Jim McIntyre II began work Nov. 8 and is assigned to the B shift. A graduate of West Montgomery High School, he is a certified EMT-D, firefighter II, hazardous materials technician, Level I Fire and Life Safety educator, driver/operator and rescue technician. He and his wife have two children and live in Troy. *Gray Grubb started duty March 7 and is attending a two-week on-the-job rookie school before being assigned to a shift. Grubb attended North Rowan High School and graduated from the 2004 Basic Fire Rookie School at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He is a North Carolina medical responder and has completed training for hazardous materials operations and emergency vehicle driving. He lives in Salisbury. |
