May 6, 2006 NC Fallen Firefighter Memorial Dedications

Salisbury Fire Department Senior Staff attends the NC Fallen Firefighter Memorial Dedication.

Salisbury Fire Department was represented at the dedication of North Carolina’s Fallen Firefighter Memorial on Saturday, May 06, 2006.   Chief Parnell and Battalion Chief Morris and Battalion Chief Geter, with visiting firefighter Luis Ferman of Guatemala, attended the dedication service in Raleigh.  An American flag that flew over the memorial in tribute of SFD Fallen Firefighter Joseph Jenkins, who died in the line of duty on August 3, 1971, was presented to Chief Parnell and the Salisbury Fire Department.

Charlotte Fire Department’s Pipes and Drums band was proudly prevalent in the dedication, as were many fire service honor guards.

The Memorial Statue is a beautiful, near-life-size rendition of three firefighters gallantly operating to save a trapped brother.  All 164 North Carolina firefighters who died in the line of duty since 1902 were honored during the service. The memorial is located in Nash Square, across from Raleigh Fire Station 1 in downtown Raleigh.
