North Carolina Firefighter Dies From Injuries

Firehouse.Com News

MECKLENBURG, North Carolina -- The North Carolina firefighter who suffered burns over 80 percent of his body in a fire Monday, has died in the hospital.

Josh Earley

Josh Earley, 23, a member of the Charlotte Fire Department and who also worked part-time at Harrisburg Fire & Rescue, responded with Harrisburg to a Mecklenburg house fire. While advancing a line into the first floor of the house, the wooden floor gave way and Earley fell about eight feet into the basement. Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department Captain Brad Christopher was behind Earley on the hose line. He and others pulled Earley from the fire, and Earley was eventually taken to the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Christopher was transported to the hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries and released Tuesday.

A third firefighter, Keith Starns, from the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department and a fourth, Jimmy Greene, Harrisburg Fire & Rescue and Charlotte firefighter, were also injured. They did not need to be transported to the hospital.
